2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness: all the details

Subaru Canada recently unveiled a new version of its rugged SUV: the 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness. Designed for adventure seekers, this model boasts significantly enhanced off-road capabilities, a more refined interior and advanced safety technologies. It is due to arrive at dealerships in the fall of 2025.

Performance and off-road capability

Under the hood, the 2026 Forester Wilderness is powered by a 2.5-liter BOXER engine developing 180 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque. This engine, coupled with an improved continuously variable transmission (CVT), promises improved responsiveness, particularly at low revs.

Thanks to its symmetrical constant-mesh all-wheel drive system and dual-function X-MODE, the vehicle offers modes adapted to snowy, muddy or rough terrain. Its high ground clearance, Yokohama Geolandar all-terrain tires and optimized suspension further enhance its exploration capabilities. What's more, it can tow up to 3,500 lb thanks to an improved transmission cooler.

Distinctive, rugged design

Visually, the Forester Wilderness stands out with exclusive design elements. It features 17-inch anthracite wheels, tow hooks concealed under anodized copper-colored covers, and hexagonal LED fog lights. Its reinforced roof rails can support a static load of 363 kg, ideal for the installation of a roof tent.

Inside, Subaru focuses on robustness and comfort, with seats covered in easy-to-clean materials and copper accents specific to the Wilderness version. The cabin also features a new 12.3-inch digital instrument screen, offering a clear, customizable display.

Safety and on-board technology

The 2026 Forester Wilderness is based on Subaru's enhanced global platform, with 10% greater rigidity for improved handling and comfort. The latest-generation EyeSight system, which includes advanced driving aids, is standard.

On the multimedia side, Subaru offers an 11.6-inch central touchscreen with STARLINK. This integrates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly, a rearview camera, SiriusXM satellite radio and remote software updates.

Price and availability

The 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness will arrive in dealerships this fall. Official prices and full details of the various versions will be announced closer to launch.

With this new generation of the Forester Wilderness, Subaru offers an even more powerful and versatile vehicle for adventure-seeking drivers. Its enhanced capabilities, distinctive design and modernized interior make it an attractive choice for both urban roads and rugged trails.
