2023 Subaru Crosstrek trim levels

The first Subarus that reached the market weren’t fancy. When the first models began to be sold in the United States in the 1950s, Subarus were known for being “cheap and ugly,” according to some of its own advertising.

But time has passed, and Subaru has changed a lot. The new Subaru Crosstrek is an all-wheel-drive compact crossover SUV, and some trims in the lineup come with Eyesight, Subaru’s exclusive driving-assist technology.

Trims and Prices

There are eight trims available for this lineup, which can be divided between the models with and without EyeSight. All trims have a simple version and an EyeSight version, except for the flagship model (Limited) and the Outdoor, which are only available with this special feature.

Prices start at $24,995 for Convenience and go to $27,195 with EyeSight. The Touring starts at $27,595 or $29,595 with EyeSight, while the Outdoor starts at $31,495. Next is the Sport ($30,095 or $32,695 with EyeSight) and the flagship Limited, which starts at $35,795.

Let’s take a closer look at what comes with the 2023 Crosstrek.

Performance and Driveability

There are two Subaru Boxer engines that are available for the various trims. The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Outdoor with EyeSight and the Limited both have a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine with 182hp and 176 lb.-ft of torque. It works with direct injection and a Dual Active Valve Control System. It has automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT) and a fuel efficiency of 8.8L/100km in the city and 7L/100km on highways. Trims like the Outdoor and 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Limited with EyeSight don’t have manual transmissions.

The other trims, starting with the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Convenience, use a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine with 152hp and 145 lb.-ft of torque. It also works with direct injection and the Dual Active Valve Control System. All trims with EyeSight, like the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Convenience with EyeSight, have the CVT transmission. Models with this engine can get 10.5L/100km in the city and 8.1L/100km on highways. The engine with automatic transmission gets 8.5L/100km and 7L/100km, respectively.

Interior and Exterior

The entire lineup is packed with convenient features to provide more comfort for passengers and drivers. Some are common to all trims, like mobile compatibility (for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), a radio data system, Bluetooth connectivity and auxiliary input.

Higher trims, like the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Sport and Limited, come with leather upholstery, while the other models have cloth seats. Those trims also come with USB ports on the centre armrest.

The exterior design definitely dispels the early idea that Subarus were ugly. There are eight colours to choose from. Buyers of all trims can opt for cool grey khaki, crystal black silica, crystal white pearl, and magnetite grey metallic. Other colours available in some trims for an additional price are pure red, plasma yellow pearl, ice silver metallic, and dark blue pearl.

All trims have anti-corrosion treatment, dual-sided galvanised steel, body-colour door mirrors, fully automatic headlights, and LED tail lights. The Sport and Limited trims also have a power-tilting sunroof and sliding with sunshade. Some features aren’t available for the entry-level trim but can be found in the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Touring or above.

Tech and Safety

The new Crosstrek is packed with cool and convenient tech features. Lower trims control the infotainment system from a 16.5 cm touchscreen display. Meanwhile, upper models have a 20.3 cm display with GPS navigation. Trims like the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Touring with EyeSight and above get a three-month trial subscription for SiriusXM satellite radio, with Travel Link included. The Convenience comes with a four-speaker sound system, while upper trims have six speakers.

Several Subaru Starlink features are unavailable for the entry-level model but can be found in the others. These include automatic collision notification, boundary alert, enhanced roadside assistance, remote door lock, remote engine start, speed alert, and an SOS emergency service.

Some security features include a stolen vehicle immobiliser, stolen vehicle recovery, and a remote vehicle locator.
