Get Ready for 2022 Ascent, Subaru's large three-row SUV
August 13 2021,

The Subaru Ascent marked a major departure for the automaker when it was launched in 2017. The first SUV from the company to seat up to eight, the Ascent immediately won positive reviews and healthy sales. The model remains the largest of Subaru's three-row SUV offerings, and here's what you can expect from the 2022 Ascent, soon available in Toronto.
Powertrain and Performance
As with virtually every model in the Subaru range, the 2022 Ascent is supplied with all-wheel drive as standard, fed through a continuously variable transmission (CVT). There's a single-engine option available, but luckily it's one that provides ample power to drive the large three-row frame. A 2.4L flat-four gas engine makes a generous 260 horsepower and 277lb-ft of torque, enough to propel this large SUV from 0-100kmh in just over seven seconds.
Fuel Economy
However, despite the 2022 Ascent's size and power, it's far from being a thirsty gas guzzler. The highway fuel economy rating of just 8.7L / 100km is an impressive figure for an eight-seater SUV and is sure to save you plenty at the gas station if you regularly travel longer journeys.
Cargo and Towing Capacity
The 2022 Ascent's large frame can accommodate up to 2,449L in cargo when rows two and three are folded down, or up to 504L when all eight passengers are seated. What's more, the maximum towing capacity of up to 2,449kg is an impressive amount for any SUV to boast.
Interior and Technology
Subaru is renowned for packing a huge number of features into their affordably priced SUVs, and the 2022 Ascent maintains the standard. Infotainment is handled by a touchscreen display of up to 8" in size, with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto featured across the range. Connectivity is handled by up to six USB ports spread throughout the cabin, while in-built navigation and a front-view camera are both available options.
Safety Tech
The advanced technology is also apparent in the suite of safety systems provided as standard, with the key highlights including:
- Lane departure warnings with lane-keeping assist.
- Forward-collision warnings and automated emergency braking.
- Adaptive cruise control.
- Adaptive LED headlights.
In addition to the standard features, higher trims also feature options including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rear automatic emergency braking.
