2021 Subaru Outback Rated Highly on Convenience, Performance, Safety and Excellent Value
The Subaru Outback is one of the company's most successful vehicles, combining the car-like convenience of a mid-size SUV with the power and capability of a station wagon.
Subaru has recently released the 2021 refresh of the model, with plenty of improvements and refinements to make the Outback even better value for money. What will savvy buyers get with their 2021 Subaru Outback purchase?
Under the Hood Power and Performance
As standard, the 2021 Outback for sale at Toronto dealers is equipped with a 2.5L Boxer engine producing 182 horsepower and 176lb-ft of torque. The power is passed to Subaru's customary all-wheel drive via a continuously variable transmission (CVT), which has ratios designed to mimic a regular eight-speed automatic box.
While this standard amount of power is highly respectable for a mid-size SUV, drivers hungry for a little more can opt for the upgraded 2.4L turbo Boxer engine. This mill pushes the ponies up to 260hp and turns up the twist to 277lb-ft.
Subaru X-Mode System
The Outback is also available with Subaru's advanced X-Mode system which optimizes power distribution and traction to each individual wheel. The result is excellent handling in tough conditions including snow, mud, loose surfaces, and steep gradients.
Advanced Safety Features
The 2021 Outback is also equipped with Subaru's suite of advanced safety and driver assist features, now standard across the range. Dubbed the Subaru EyeSight system, standard and available features include:
- Lane departure warnings and keep assist.
- Lane centring assist.
- Automatic throttle control for collision mitigation.
- Sway warnings.
- Blind spot detection.
- Rear cross-traffic alerts.
- Driver distraction alerts and mitigation.
Added to these active measures are available extras including steering-responsive LED headlights, high beam assist, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and much more.
Starlink Connected Services
Also available on the 2021 Outback is Subaru's Starlink Connected Services system. This allows many conveniences to be operated remotely through a smartphone, such as door locking and unlocking, engine ignition, and HVAC control. Starlink also automatically alerts emergency services when a collision is detected, and comes complete with full roadside assistance.
Interior Tech
Touchscreens are a standard feature of modern SUVs, but the Outback takes the concept a step further by offering dual 7" screens as standard. Functions including HVAC control, multimedia, and smartphone connectivity can be split between the screens depending on your needs.
Higher trims benefit from an enlarged centrally mounted 11.6" screen, while the standard sound support can be upgraded to a 12-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system.

The 2021 Outback offers excellent value for money with a starting price of just $30,995 for the Convenience trim. At the top end, the Premier XT comes in at $43,995 and offers an exceptional level of luxury for the price point.
