2021 Subaru Impreza vs. 2021 Toyota Corolla: Best Value Inside and Out
December 17 2020,
The Subaru Impreza is a compact car that offers exceptional value. Available in four- and five-door models, it includes the legendary Subaru Symmetrical Full-Time AWD system and advanced SUBARU BOXER engine. The 2021 model lineup is the safest, strongest, and most efficient Impreza developed yet.
However, the Impreza has not gone without competition. The Toyota Corolla is a longstanding competitor, but the Impreza continues to add value with each model year. Here, we compare both vehicles.
The 2021 Subaru Impreza has the more impressive drivetrain
Each Subaru Impreza is equipped with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that generates 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. The Toyota Corolla includes two primary engine options. First, a 1.8-litre four-cylinder produces 139 horsepower with 126 lb-ft of torque. This engine is standard on all gas-powered models, except the higher-grade SE series. The Impreza's more powerful engine is standard, beginning with the base trim level.
The Corolla's other gasoline engine is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder that produces 169 horsepower. Although it has more power than the Impreza, you'll have to spend more to access it in the middle to the upper segment of the lineup.
One of the most surprising points of this comparison is that all-wheel drive is standard on every Impreza model—even with the entry-level that starts under $20,000. You won't find the all-wheel drive on any Corolla, all variants only come in front-wheel-drive configurations which are much less useful in the winter. Moreover, the Impreza is one of the least expensive AWD vehicles available in Canada.
Get comfortable in the 2021 Subaru Impreza
Inside, you'll find the Impreza loaded with technology and other features that add safety, convenience, entertainment, and more. Another interesting fact is that the Impreza has a better passenger room than the Corolla, ultimately offering more comfort for all occupants. Models offer up to 1,011 mm of front headroom compared to 973 mm for the Corolla.
Front-seat occupants receive 1,095 mm of legroom, which is 21 additional mm than the Corolla. With 588 litres behind the rear seats, the Impreza offers more cargo space than the Corolla, which only has 504 litres in the same area.
