2021 Subaru Crosstrek vs. 2021 Kia Seltos: Choose Handling and Efficiency

The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek has been providing Canadian drivers with excellent traction in any type of weather conditions for many years. Moreover, it provides a versatile cabin filled with technologies and commodities that make every trip an enjoyable adventure.

Here, we compare the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek with the 2021 Kia Seltos.

More efficient power in the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek

Introducing the new, more powerful 2021 Subaru Crosstrek.

First, a four-cylinder 2.0-litre boxer engine deploys 152 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque in many of the Crosstrek’s models. This engine is mated to a choice of transmission; a 6-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). With as little as 8.8 L/100 km in the city and 7.0 L/100 km on the highway, the Crosstrek’s fuel ratings won’t break the bank. Like all Crosstrek models, this engine sends its power to the renowned Subaru Symmetrical AWD system, with some trims equipped with X-MODE.

The Limited and Outdoor trims are available with a 2.5-litre boxer engine that delivers 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque. The new Outdoor trim level includes a dual-function version of X-MODE for even more rough-road capability. Fuel ratings are also frugal, with 8.7 L/100 km in the city and 6.9 L/100 km on the highway.

The Seltos offers two engines, but AWD is optional on the base trims. In most trims, you will find a four-cylinder 2.0-litre engine that outputs 146 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque. This is much less output than the comparable base engine in the Crosstrek line – but it is also more expensive to operate on the highway, with a fuel consumption rating of 7.0 L/100 km.

The other option is a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 175 hp. It delivers less power than the Crosstrek’s second option, but is also much less fuel efficient; with a rating of 9.4 L/100 km in the city and 7.9 L/100 km on the highway.

The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek has a secret weapon

To push efficiency even further, the Subaru Crosstrek has a PHEV variant that delivers maximum efficiency. With ratings of 6.6 L/100 km in the city and 6.8 L/100 km on the highway and a range of 27 km in full electric mode, the Crosstrek PHEV will take you further for less. The Kia Seltos doesn’t offer a hybrid variant.
