2021 Subara Legacy features and specs

Subaru cars are perhaps best known for their rugged off-road SUV capabilities, but their excellent engineering is much more versatile than that. The Legacy is based on the same mechanics as the market-leading Outback, but tops the powertrain with a high-end sedan body that offers a spacious and comfortable family drive. The latest 2022 Subaru Legacy is now available at the leading Subaru dealer in Toronto, and here are the main highlights you can enjoy with a test drive.

What's New for 2022

The 2022 Legacy builds on the previous model's success by adding 17" black alloy wheels as standard at the entry level, while higher trims now have a powered moonroof, rear seat ventilation, and an upgraded safety package.

Exterior

The Legacy's sedan exterior exudes a quietly classic style and offers a refreshing change from the ever-present SUV profile. The four-door format blends aerodynamic sculptings with family-friendly convenience, producing a car that looks supremely confident in both urban and highway surroundings.

Powertrain and Performance

As is usually the case with Subaru cars, the Legacy is all-wheel drive as standard across the range. However, there's a choice of two engines, both paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

At the entry level there's a naturally aspirated 2.5L gas engine making a healthy 182 horsepower, while higher trims feature a lively 2.4L turbo model which pushes the ponies up to 260 hp while increasing the torque to a powerful 277lb-ft. Fuel economy is impressive, with the entry-level models boasting a figure of 6.7L / 100km on the highway..

Spacious and Comfortable Interior

SUVs may be most widely associated with spacious cabins, but the Legacy shows off the roomy advantages of a traditional sedan format. Legroom is generous in both front and rear, with figures of 108.7 and 100cm respectively, ensuring that five adults will fit into the car with no cramping whatsoever. The overall interior feel continues the Subaru traditional of upscale materials and features, with options including Nappa leather seats with both power adjustment and heating function.

Technology

Whichever Legacy trim you choose, there's a wealth of interior infotainment technology provided. The entry level model is fitted with dual 7" touchscreens complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while higher trims switch to a single huge 11.6" touchscreen including in-built navigation. The standard four-speaker audio setup can be upgraded to either a six-speaker rig or a premium 12-speaker Harman Kardon system.

Safety Features

The last 2021 Legacy received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS to go along with a five-star crash test rating from the NHTSA. However, the 2022 model builds on even this impressive foundation with several new safety features. Key standard and available highlights include:

- Adaptive cruise control.

- Lane centring.

- Automatic forward emergency braking.

- Blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts.

- Rear seat occupancy alerts.
